I have mixed feelings about this. Until last December, we lived near the Cape and knew some people who will be affected by the end of the shuttle program, and we were privileged to be able to see a number of launches from our pool deck*. On the other hand, I hold more hope for commercial space efforts, although their launches will likely never be as big nor as accessible as the Shuttle launches were.
*God, we miss that house: northern Virginia has nothing to compare.
