A young woman is keeping me up nights

Her name is Lisbeth Salander.

I bought The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo the first week of January but didn’t get around to reading it until now. I began it Saturday afternoon and finished its 590 pages Sunday night (Monday morning) at 1 AM.

Monday I ordered the second book, The Girl Who Played with Fire. It arrived yesterday around 2:30. I finished its 630 pages at 1:15 this morning.

I’ll be ordering the third book, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest today. I may get the Kindle version so I don’t have to wait (I can read Kindle books on my iPhone or my Macs).

If you like crime thrillers with fascinating characters, complex plots and a feminist bent, you’ll want to spend nights with Lisbeth Salander too, tattoos and all.

  1. Isn’t it a shame this author wrote these three and then passed away? These are *really* well written.

You know the first one is out as a movie right now, altho that is never as good as the book.

  2. I went to my our library’s online catalog and put holds on all three. I am 819 of 820 for 145 copies of Dragon, 433 of 433 for 97 copies of Fire and 935 of 937 for 72 of Hornet’s Nest.

Then I went to Powell’s Books online and found two used paperback copies of Dragon for $4.95 and a used copy of Fire for $5.95. They will send them to my local store, not far from home, at no cost for shipping. I usually pick up books there within a couple days of my order.

I’ll read the first two soon. I’ve canceled the holds on them. I might have to wait on Hornet’s Nest until next winter sometime.

I look forward to reading them. In the meantime NPS Ranger Anna Pigeon has kept me entertained.

  3. Kiley can use these page counts for her million page count!!! Please don’t forget to send her any other pages you read. (Your readers can send in pages also.) We are almost at 400,000 pages since September.

I’ll take a picture of her with her sign and send it to you to post. Maybe we can get to 500,000 by the end of the year. That’s our goal!!!

  4. My mom just started reading this book and was excited to tell me about it. She also saw the publisher(s) on Charlie Rose who told the story of what happened to the author, how he died, his g/f, how she ended up with the manuscripts.. fascinating stuff.
That movie is currently playing at the Guild.
Supposedly, the second book has been optioned as an American film but the woman who plays the woman is so good in the scandinavian film that they aren’t sure how to cast it.
My mom said she can’t put the book down. She’s going to give it to me when she’s finished.
    Can hardly wait….!!!
