The internet is broken

Neither Twitter nor Facebook seem to be working this morning. Anyone else having a problem?

Also NMK is loading slowly at times. My brother John told me yesterday that this is a constant problem for him. Anyone else having continuing problems loading NMK? Normally it comes up in a few seconds for me.

  1. Yes, for a couple of months now I have had constant problems loading and moving around the site. It is very sloooooooow. In fact, just now I typed in the browser name and then picked up my book and read a page while I waited for it to load.

  2. The NMK home page just loaded for me in Safari (with all cookies removed and the cache empty) in less than four seconds. Firefox was just as fast (again with an empty cache).

Are more of you having problems? Any ideas?

Jill is using IE. John are you using Firefox?

(I should add that occasionally it loads slowly for me, but I thought it consistently better since I put the site back together in April.)

  3. NMK is very slow to load, unfortunately.

I don’t know about FB, but Twitter’s reportedly been under a DoS attack all morning.

I don’t find it at all surprising–in fact, I’m surprised they weren’t better prepared for it–their email server was recently hacked, and all their internal correspondence, meeting notes, etc., were made public. In one document they called themselves The Pulse Of The Planet.

May as well have painted targets on their servers.

  4. PS: I think your load issues have to do with the dynamic features in your sidebar. Commenting features, specifically.

  5. Earlier this morning, it was so slow that Safari gave up, but just now it loaded fairly fast.

    Hey, new commenting structure. Cool!

Haven’t tried Twitter today. Not to get off topic, but I’m sort of cooling off on Twitter. Sort of bored with it. More for later….:)

    1. I think everything was slow this morning while Twitter burned.

NMK automatically tweets each time I create a new post (which is why NMK was slow this morning when I was busy posting), and I have found some new friends and readers, but Twitter is much too much just a gaggle of people saying the same things (repeating each other in fact).

As the maĆ®tre d’ once said at the country club where I worked during a particularly loud cocktail party, “Who’s listening?”

  6. I use IE and your site has always been slow (slower than most other sites) to load altho moreso yesterday and today it seems. To me it seems like it all started when you got back on the horse in, was it, April? I thought it might have to do with a new server? Not that I’m the least bit savvy when it comes to these things. I type, I click… I type, I click…

  7. Firefox/OSX, sometimes Safari/OSX, and sometimes Firefox/WinXP.

That autotweet would definitely have been slowing things down this morning, trying to reach a server that, for all intents and purposes, didn’t exist. But it’s not just this morning that it’s been a slow load, unfortunately.

  8. I browse with Firefox and have never had a problem with the site. As a commenter has already added, both Facebook and Twitter were slowed/shutdown by denial of service attacks today. I blame it on those difficult to please North Koreans.

Great posts this week by the way.
