  1. Scott’s blog is not letting me comment, but with my luck, this kid will probably end up in my class, self-contained ED.

I wish that SpEd students could take standardized tests at their level – if a student shows up in my class reading at a second grade level, it is utter madness to give him the 7th grade test at the end of the year. But year after year, this is what my students and I suffer through. If he could take the 3rd grade test, he might have a shot. Instead, there is no chance for him to prove to himself or anyone else that he has progressed. In 9th grade, as soon as he is old enough, he will drop out. Then 100% of the kids still in school can pass and everyone will be happy.

Watching Arne Duncan on the News Hour right now, and nothing will change with our new administration. Apparently, those of us who can’t get students to pass standardized tests are “mired in mediocrity.” Yup, that’s me.
