Didn’t this same phenomenon occur during the last election a couple of years ago? Prices came down just before the election, because high gas prices effect everyone negatively, and that tends to hurt the incumbant administration’s party…. (Obviously the prices didn’t stay down afterward.)
I remember it was argued then that there is no connection between politics and gas prices, but I personally think that’s a naive perspective. While I realize that the price of a barrel of oil has dropped lately (thus gas prices have come down, too–even despite the hurricane in the Gulf), I also realize that big oil is at the helm of world economics, and it behooves them to have the Republicans in charge in the USA. Naturally they will exert their influence, because they get more tax breaks and more opportunities to rape the environment when Republicans are in office. And then there’s our presence in the Middle East. We are pumping billions of our dollars into their economies. I doubt they want it to stop. So they manipulate the price of oil….
Am I the only one who thinks it’s pretty convenient that the price of gas and oil keeps dropping just before our major elections?
According to Albuquerquegasprices.com, there are cases of $2.85 gas. I got a text message from my cousin yesterday telling me about $2.96 gas at Smith’s in my area.
Oh, and gas prices in New Mexico have gone down in New Mexico from August to December every year in the last five years except for last year, 2007. Look for gas prices to start going up either in late December or January.
Montano and 4th are the hot spots for gas for $2.85.
I fear it is all for naught because it just took me one hour and ten minutes to navigate from Renaissance to Coors… along Montano.
And, yes, my gas light went on ’cause I originally showed about an eighth of a tank but the going was so slow and tedious that I used it all up!
I filled up this evening for $2.90 a gallon.
I’m thinking I’ll buy an RV now that gas is cheap again. 🙂
