  1. It’s grueling – I paid $25 for not quite 6 gallons (more like 5.5) here in NYC yesterday. Thank goodness I rarely drive my car and saw no need to fill it up.

  2. What has Bush got to do with gas prices?

A better place to place blame would be on the people who voted to ‘protect’ the Valle Vidal to the detriment of the rest of us.

Oil CAN be extracted without undue harm to the environment.

I’ll bet that the angry responses to this posting will come from people who voted to NOT explore for oil in the Valle Vidal and didn’t even THINK about gas prices.

  3. A man starts a war in the country that just happens to have the second largest oil reserves in the world and you don’t see him as responsible for the price of gas.

A President ignores the economy and lets it swirl down the crapper for 7 years while running up the largest deficit in the history of the world, causing the dollar to plummet against other hard currencies, and you don’t see the connection to our gas prices? Do you know that oil is bought and sold in dollars?

Do you remember that this is the same guy who borrowed millions from his daddy’s buddies to invest in an oil company in Texas that he also flushed down the crapper even as all other oil companies were profiting?

Thinking Bush has nothing to do with the price of our gas is possibly the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

And to add insult to injury the ***wipe in the White House has blocked every attempt to legislate increased fuel economy in our vehicles and has done next to nothing to encourage the development of alternative fuels.

Iraqi oil production reached a peak of 3.5 million barrels per day in 1980. Production dropped to zero by 1996 because of the Iran-Iraq war and the invasion of Kuwait. It stayed small until 2003 when we occupied. Since then it has been slowly growing and today it stands at about 2.1 million bbl per day. By this measure, Bush is holding down the price of gas with the war.

As far as the relative value of the dollar and other currencies, I suspect that the price of a barrel of oil will be calculated properly no matter what currency is offered or asked.

I agree that Bush has allowed way too many congressional ear-marks but the price of oil doesn’t seem to have suffered too much. I don’t know how to measure this effect too accurately.

On the other hand, congress’ legislation of corn subsidies to encourage bio fuel made from corn has backfired BIG-TIME. This seemingly innocent law has actually killed hundreds of thousands of people in third world countries. Also, it seems impossible to repeal this bad subsidy law because the legislators from the corn growing states block any attempt at repeal.

We’ve all borrowed money from our parents. Bush invested his borrowings and lost.

I’m sorry but I think you need to adjust your definition of ‘stupid’.

Legislating fuel economy is like legislating a new value for pi. It ain’t going to change anything. Attempts at doing either will fail.
