It looks like I’d better get busy reading some different books! I only found one title on that entire list that I have already read. The one I read was a very compelling book, though, I must say. Heart-wrenching, but compelling. (I actually recommended it in the NMK comments several months ago.) It is–
LONG WAY GONE: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. By Ishmael Beah. (Sarah Crichton/-Farrar, Straus & Giroux, $22.) A former child warrior gives literary voice to the violence and killings he both witnessed and perpetrated during the Sierra Leone civil war.
Be forewarned, however, as good as the book is, it is not for the faint of heart.
I’m not much better — I’ve only read two. I didn’t get much reading done in 2007 and I’m hoping for improvement in 2008.
