  1. Librarians (and the American Library Assn) have also lead the charge against invasions of privacy allowed by the Patriot Act, as well as the part of the act that prohibits them under penalty of law from telling anyone that they’ve been investigated. They have also been instrumental in the BORDC (Bill of Rights Defense Committee) that has led 389 American communities and 7 states (thus far) to proclaim (through resolutions) their unwillingness to comply with parts of the Patriot Act that threaten the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. Plus, there is their steadfast resistance to efforts to ban books from their shelves. Yes, librarians are usually in the vanguard when it comes to protecting our rights.
