And then, after he gave his speech, he was whisked away to a safe house in the woods of northern Illinois, which was — here’s the important part — right down the street from the house where I grew up.
And when I lived there, that house gave the worst Halloween candy ever.
It’s this kind of insight that makes history come alive, I think.
