Albuquerque air quality is reportedly the worst it has ever been and the smoke from Arizona is expected to continue for days. We’re being told even healthy individuals should avoid outdoor activity. Swamp coolers that most of us depend on for cooling should not be used (they draw in outside air without any serious filtering).
The smoke particles in the air are much finer than dust — and much more dangerous.
I am running fans and a humidifier. 80 degrees inside.
I am sorry. We’ve had two relatively smoke free days here in the Springs and I am really appreciating the respite.
I’ve been in Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and ABQ all week… no matter where I’ve been or what time of day, it’s been smokey and awful. I know it’s bad for those dealing with the fires and I am grateful that we (so far) aren’t actually experiencing fires in NM but… Geez! Enough already! I keep wondering why the AZ governor hasn’t asked for more federal help, what with the rate of consumption and zero containment. Put the danged thing out! Then… the Horseshoe fire has been burning since May 8th… and it is just now only 50% contained. It’s big (and part of this smoke), too.
It’s making everyone sick and crabby and really impatient.
Me, too.
Blech!!
Time for a road trip.
It was weird to watch it all roll in at 6pm last night. I was at Menaul and San Pedro, and looking west was a wall of smoke and east was the clear Sandias.
We bought a new heater this past winter and one function it has is a fan that runs the air thru a HEPA filter be circulation. Not much better than no swamp cooler but “mejor que nada” say the old folks.
Cheers, Mi3ke
