I once read that the best everyday writers were sportswriters, perhaps because they wrote about something that interested them (and us) rather than about just something that was interesting.
Surely this tribute to Willie Mays shows that effect.

Willie Mays was great, but he’s no Mickey Hatcher.

I only got to see Willie Mays play once. Willie McCovey played that day too. Juan Marichal and Bob Gibson pitched. Quite a game to have fragments of still in my memory. Thanks Dad.
