Albuquerque

Why I like living in Albuquerque, leaving on a trip edition.

Drive to the airport at 9AM. 17 miles. 22 minutes.

Parking in satellite parking. $4 a day including tax. The shuttle was behind my car before I got out. We drove directly from my car to the terminal door.

Walked directly up to a kiosk. No line. I did have to wait behind one other person to turn over my bag.

Walked to security. No lines whatsoever. I walked directly up to the guy checking boarding passes. I walked directly up to take off my shoes. I walked strait through the metal detector. I barely slowed down.

Another 100 feet or so and I was at the gate.

  1. Sounds like Cedar Rapids. Except Cedar Rapids is a grim, post-industrial town on a flood plain instead of picturesque Albuquerque, at the base of snow-capped Sandia Peak. Safe travels.

  2. I always say flying back to NM for is like winding down. I go from crazy SFO, to a sort of moderate PHX, to a “hey, this is civilized” ABQ.

It’s the winding back up going the other direction that really strips my gears.

BTW, thirteen years later and I’m still cheesed I can no longer leave the house 10 min before a movie starts and not only get there in time with a good parking spot, but I can be in my seat with popcorn and junior mints with time to spare.

Frackin’ Californians and their propensity to stand in line…..
