On December 8, 1702, the Duke of Alburquerque, Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva Enriquez, arrived in Mexico City to become Viceroy. In a kiss-ass move four years later, some folks around here named a settlement after him.

Remarkably similar to how Denver got its name over 150 years later – from the (ex-, but they didn’t know it) territorial governor of Kansas, James W. Denver.
Might have been more of a kiss-ass move if they named after the person and not the title.
