Idle thought

My four-year-old grandson sings to himself, like most of us of all ages.

Still, it strikes me odd to hear him sing the chorus from “Highway to Hell.”

  1. That word continues to get my family in trouble, but I stand by my position: “hell” is NOT a curse word!

  2. Well, now I know I’m old. To my knowledge, I had never heard that song before. I had to go to You Tube and listen to it just so I’d know what you all are talking about. Then I had to do You Tube again to hear it with the printed lyrics so I could understand it. (Of course the chorus was clear enough without the printed lyrics.)

In hindsight, I may have heard it last month in a bar with live music on Whiskey Row in Prescott, AZ during an after wedding party on a Saturday night, but I didn’t give it much thought. The crowd, however, seemed to really get into it.

  3. Hey – my little guy (5) has a favorite band – Queen. The boy knows all the words to We Will Rock You. You should hear him in the shower.
“Blood on your face. You big disgrace. Wavin’ your banner all over the place.”

    1. At least I know THAT song. Maybe I’m not quite ancient yet.

In fact, I loved how they used that song in “A Knight’s Tale” starring Heath Ledger. The whole crowd at the jousting tournament got into it. I thought it was a clever movie. They took a Middle Ages, knights-in-shining-armor plot and used modern music for the sound-track, and it worked. There were songs by Queen, David Bowie, Heart, Eric Clapton, Sly & The Family Stone, Thin Lizzy, Bachman Turner Overdrive, etc. It is a fun movie.

      1. My kids love that one, too. I think one of them had a musical toothbrush, a few years back, that played that one.

The two songs are both from the late seventies, I think, Aunt Debby. So ignorance of either should make you feel young, not old.
