  1. Hard to list only five, but these are certainly on my list of favorites.

Paris (it is, after all, Paris), Lyon ( I met my lovely wife there), Parma (the beautiful food & wine), Copenhagen (so remarkably clean and beautiful), & Hong Kong (so exotic, yet cosmopolitan).

  2. I answered in the comments on the other post, but I’ll answer here too….

In addition to Boston, they are, in no particular order

New York (the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn especially)

    San Francisco

    Kansas City

    Seattle

These are all cities where I’ve ended up alone (for a multitude of reasons) and found the citizens of that city to be kind, accommodating to a single gal, not too difficult to navigate, and just plain fun.

(many might scoff at my characterizing the people of NYC as kind, but honestly, I never had more people treat me kindly than when I was there alone and obviously a visitor.)

Also…I only listed American cities because my international travel roll call is brief. I hope to fix that soon.

  3. I would like to live for six months, more or less, in New York City, Paris, San Francisco, Seattle and Stockholm.

Give me a month each to revisit New Orleans, Montreal, Geneva, Tokyo and Savannah. Oh, and Havana!

I’ve never been to Prague, London, Dublin, Venice or Copenhagen, but I’d like to.

  4. I don’t care much for cities, as evidenced by my having lived in remote locales for decades, but if I had to spend an extended amount of time living in any city, I think Portland, OR, would be my #1 choice. I am also especially attracted to Salzburg, Austria (but not sure I’d want to live there in that up-tight Germanic culture). There aren’t really any other cities I’m particularly drawn to, other than for being near a certain landscape I love, such as Denver or Seattle. I’d also like to visit St. Petersburg in Russia some day to see the sights.

As for the U.S., the friendliest, most hospitable and helpful people that I’ve ever encountered were in rural coastal Georgia, not too far from Savannah. In my general experience, though, everywhere I’ve ever gone–no matter how big the city or remote the region, no matter the country or continent–the vast majority of people have always been friendly and helpful to me. Perhaps, in part, that’s a reflection of my friendly, non-judgmental attitude towards them.

  5. If I try to think of cities that just make/made me happy, I come up with Dublin, Venice, Chicago, Savannah and Williamsburg.

Paris is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to, and New York is the most exciting. But a few days in either and I’m ready to leave.

    I’d love to see Athens.
