Nipper

The trademark His Master’s Voice was registered 100 years ago today. It was based on a painting done in 1898 by Francis Barraud of his mutt Nipper. Nipper had died in 1895, but Barraud remembered the scene of the dog, which had belonged to his brother, listening to a gramophone.

When Barraud visited the Gramophone Company to see if they would lend him a horn so he could repaint the work, Gramophone asked to buy the painting (with their instrument in it).

The work went on display as advertising in January 1900. Emil Berliner bought the copyright for America and his company eventually became Victor Talking Machine Company and ultimately RCA Victor.

  1. RCA Victor has since dropped the Victor label.

In 1987 RCA was sold along with GE Consumer Electronics to the French State Owned Corporation called Thomson.

In 2004, Thomson set up a joint venture (TTE) with China’s TCL, giving to TCL all manufacturing of RCA and Thomson television and DVD products and making TCL the global leader in TV manufacturing.

So, just like most of our manufacturing infrastructure they too have been out sourced. To China of course.

The companies that made this country great are now abandoning it.

Sad, yes. The backbone of America has scoliosis at best, made of gelatin at worst.

    1. Well, if you mean that the truth are tedious comments, I guess they are.

“PEOPLE WHO LACK THE STRENGTH TO BE THEMSELVES, ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO TEAR DOWN THOSE WHO DO.”

Simple answer for you if you do not like the truth then you do not have to read them.

You Do Have FREEDOM OF CHOICE!

  2. Well, John, you also have the freedom (apparently) to constantly comment on your own comments and Capitalize Random Words For No Reason.

But that doesn’t make it right.

  3. How can you not see that all of our industry has moved to the orient. First it was the Japanese. Why do you think most of our electronics have Japanese instructions? And if you hadn’t noticed, most of the problems we are having with toys for our children and the recalls is because the Chinese still used lead based paints, outlawed here many years ago. And why do you think this is happening? They can produce items much cheaper than we can here, minimum wages, employee benefits that they don’t pay.

RCA was an icon for US industry. No longer. Much is lost in that regard.
I am sorry the rest of you can’t see it.
