… amount of class being shown all around. Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland had pitcher Armando Galarraga take the lineup out to the home plate umpire for today’s game. The umpire is Jim Joyce.
Meanwhile the commissioner sits on his hands. Overturn the call Bud. It’s simple.
The Commissioner has almost unlimited power to protect the integrity of the game, and there is certainly an integrity issue at stake here. No aspect of the game would change if he reversed the call. Not even the most stodgy traditionalist would complain. The Commish could even turn the decision over to the umpire and let him make the call again.
This is a couple of really good guys — the player and the ump — in a bad but very human situation. That happens a lot in life, but there’s almost never the opportunity to make it right. He should make it right.
I’ll bet you cash money he doesn’t.
I was hoping all day that Selig would overturn the call. I can’t fathom why he wouldn’t.
But he isn’t going to. Jerk.
It would have been so great if Selig had decided to overturn the call. Who would it hurt? It was the last out, it’s not as if someone could make a case that something else might have happened later in the game.
Everyone associated with this has been classy except the commissioner, who has remained true to form. What a jerk.
Did you see what the fans in Detoit did tonight?
They cheered for Joyce, the guy who blew the call, when he came out to ump tonight’s game.
It almost renews my faith in human nature.
Just got back from Detroit. The word around there is that Galarraga should be given credit for the sport’s only 28-out perfect game.
