Don’t buy an iPhone

If you’re thinking about buying an iPhone 3GS right now, here’s some very simple advice: wait. Based on not only industry rumors but also historical patterns of iPhone releases, it’s widely expected that Apple will debut a new iPhone in less than two months. While we don’t know anything concrete about the next iPhone, it seems obvious the next iPhone will have more storage, a faster processor, and possibly even more RAM than the current iPhone 3GS. All of that equals better performance, and it’s likely the prices will remain exactly the same as the current models — meaning you get more bang for your buck.

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) has more.

Sorry, Natalie.

  1. This stings less for iPhone purchasers than it does for people who buy Apple’s computers. In June 2009, when the latest version of the MacBook Pro came out, the systems all got upgraded specs and a significant price drop to boot. When somebody can buy a better laptop than the one you just purchased, and they saved $400 to boot, then you know you got screwed.

    1. But seriously Avelino, has there ever been a time when computers weren’t better and cheaper than they were a few months ago?

Woe to those who bought MacBook Pros yesterday. Much improved ones showed up today.

      1. No, of course not, but the June 2009 refresh was pretty interesting. Not only were the computers much better than the previous generation, but the price was cut specifically to allay fears that Macs wouldn’t do well in the poor economy.

  2. LOL… You know I weighed that option but, man, I’ve been waiting for a YEAR for my contract to come up to be able to change phones and, dang it, I wanted it when I wanted it so I got it.

And, yeah, there is always something else/new on the horizon.

I’m very, very happy with my phone, thank you very much!
    🙂

  3. My 20-month-old iPhone shows some wear-and-tear from its excursion into the sink and getting caught in the mechanism on a La-Z-Boy chair (don’t ask), but I’m holding out for summer and the expected new model. I’ve been eligible for the AT&T upgrade price since January, so I’m proud of my self control. 🙂

And I really don’t think I’ll get an iPad until version two.
