The Consumerist has the story of an amateur photographer who, from his version, appears to have been unduly hassled in Orlando’s Downtown Disney for — of all things — taking pictures.
Security guards gone amok? Real issues? Only hearing one side of the story? You decide.
This sounds to me like one guy taking things overboard (for who knows what reason) and everybody else piling on.
The thing about Disney is, they never want anybody to complain. So this photographer will probably get a free annual pass out of the deal.
Seriously, if you are ever at Disney and ANYTHING goes wrong – complain. They love to give away free stuff to make sure you leave happy.
It’s weird, since I’ve taken a photography class, I’ve started to notice this phenomenon.
Pretty much, if you have a tripod and a more than point and shoot camera, people get really freaked out.
On a recent field trip with my photography class, a bar owner came rushing out to yell at us, and when our teacher intervened, he was like “oh, cool, just make my place look good.”
This was after being harassed by local police…twice.
If the guy in the story had been taking photos of the House of Blues with a pocket point and shoot, they don’t bug him, I guarantee.
I guess most folks don’t realize that professional photo gear has arrived at a price point where even yo-yo’s like me can afford it.
I agree with Jill. On our trip to Disney last month, there was a minor snafu with our room and some special arrangements that we had made in advance and when I called the manager politely, they spent an entire week showering us with free gifts and services to the point where it was embarrassing. If he reaches out to the right level of management at Disney, I think they will bend over backwards to set things right. They always have in our experience.
