    The actual definition for a blue moon is a fourth full moon in the same season. So false. Winter just began.

    The common, but wrong, definition for a blue moon is the second full moon in any calendar month. So true. There are full moons on December 2nd and December 31st.

    Except …

    The December 31st full moon occurs on January 1st in East Asia and Australia. So false.

    P.S. Winter just beginning refers to the full moon December 31st, which is after your solstice.
