Charles P. Pierce wrote an incredible profile of Tiger Woods for Esquire in 1997.
Here Pierce reflects on the Accident.
But read the 1997 profile.
Thanks Avelino.

That 1997 piece is astounding (damn Pierce is a good writer), both for its insight and its prescience.
Or, as Atrios would say, “Nobody could have predicted.”
Wow. As cynical as I am, I bought into the Tiger myth hook, line, and sinker. I’m not into sports much, and I loathe golf as much as George Carlin did, but I had a fondness for the image of Tiger.
So while he certainly is still a supremely gifted athlete, it turns out he’s as crass and human as everyone else: I should know better. No surprise that I was fond of John Edwards until… well, you know.
Great articles: thanks to you and Avelino for the links.
