There's Christmas Music and then

I’ve made a playlist with all my Christmas music and have it on shuffle play — all 465 tracks, though they drop out for a week after they play.

It’s not working. The only Christmas music that works for me really is “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”

So that’s my new ringtone.

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heel.
You’re as cuddly as a cactus,
You’re as charming as an eel.
Mr. Grinch.

You’re a bad banana
With a greasy black peel.

I’m beginning to feel the spirit already. (Scrooge was right to begin with, you know?)

  1. Don’t you have Leon Redbone’s “Christmas Island?”

It has the best version of “Frosty The Snowman” ever!

  2. I have a CD I burned in 2001 of my cranky and dark Xmas songs. (Grinch is on there)

Here’s a few from the list:

    James Brown – Soulful Christmas

BB King – Merry Christmas Baby

John Lee Hooker – Blues for Christmas

Pogues – Fairytale of New York (any song that starts out with “Christmas in the drunk tank” makes into my playlist”

Stevie Wonder – Someday at Christmas

I had a lot of fun seeking out dark Xmas songs. It, dare I say, cheered me.

  3. “Which of these (above) is not like the others?”

    I’ll take a guess.

“From Rush’s favorite band – Mannheim Steamroller”

My favorite Christmas lyric is a paraphrase of an old Nat King Cole classic:

“Rush Limbaugh roasting on an open fire.”

Naw, too much grease. Too much smoke. Never mind.

Three Dog Night’s “Joy to the World” isn’t “Joy to the World” the Christmas Carol.

    Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a-drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine
    Singin’…

    Joy to the world
All the boys and girls now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
    Joy to you and me
