In a comment Jill said, “[W]e drove by this [Crazy Horse] memorial in 2002 and again in 2007, and now I see your photos from 2009 – and it looks exactly the same every time.”
I went to the closet and dug out a photograph I took there in 1995. Guess what? It looked the same 14 years ago, too.
So I plugged in the scanner to copy the photo, only to learn that HP (the Comcast of computer products) doesn’t have scanner drivers to support the new Mac operating system. HP didn’t have drivers for Mac Leopard either, but one could use a work around. Now that’s not even doable. And HP has no intention of updating these drivers.
This is the second time I have bought a high-end HP scanner specifically to scan photos and had it become a brick in a very short period of time. I will never, ever buy an HP product again.
Can anyone suggest a good long-lived photo scanner? Canon 8800? Epson V500?
Ken,
Have you seen this? http://news.softpedia.com/news/Apple-Releases-New-HP-Printer-Drivers-for-Mac-OS-X-10-6-122273.shtml
However, the best solution is to buy a PC instead of an off-brand also-ran.
It’s a scanner not a printer, but thanks for the link anyway.
And as far as a PC, here is what HP says:
“We are sorry to inform you that a full feature driver for Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition will not be available for your HP product in the future. You can upgrade to an HP product that is fully compatible with Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition if additional features are necessary.”
I am using Windows 7 x64. All modern operating systems are or will be 64.
My point was, and is, HP as a marketing tool does not update its drivers, intending instead to force the sale of newer products. I refuse to join them in that any longer.
You’re running windows on top of leopard???? And a 64 bit windows to boot????
You’re a real glutton for punishment!
First adopters get to see the warts. You get to see warts ^ 2!
The link I provided said it was for scanners, too. Maybe not stand alone scanners.
Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) on both Macs, and yes Snow Leopard does have some bugs.
Windows 7 64-bit runs in a separate partition on my MacBook Pro laptop. Windows 7 works fine, but I use it for almost nothing.
The link may have included scanners but it simply describes the Apple documentation about what is included in the Snow Leopard update, which is where I began when I plugged the scanner in.
I bought an HP computer on sale at Costco a couple years ago after using the same wonderful Gateway computer for about 8 years. I have had more trouble owning an HP in the past couple years than in all the years of owning various other electronic devices put together. At one point, after sending it back three times, they finally replaced it. I originally bought one running with XP; they replaced it with one running on Vista. I HATE it. And I continue to have problems–and I’ve lost a lot of music and photos I held dear. (OK my fault for not having an external, but still.) And don’t get me started on their customer “service” department. I’ll never, ever, ever buy another HP product!
