Idle thought (borrowed from Jill)

How come the news media would have it that Michael Jackson died of a heart attack but Heath Ledger died of a drug overdose?

  1. From the day of his death:

NEW YORK (CNN) — Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday of a possible drug overdose in a Lower Manhattan apartment, the New York Police Department said.

I guess the tox reports come back quicker in New York than in L.A.

  2. Didn’t they find Ledger with various pill bottles and pills near him? Naturally, one would assume a “possible” drug overdose.

  3. Circumstantial evidence is just circumstantial evidence.

    For example:

“Lee told the AP Tuesday she repeatedly rejected Jackson’s demands for the drug, Diprivan. Several months ago, Jackson had begun badgering Lee about Diprivan, also known as Propofol, Lee said. It is an intravenous anesthetic drug widely used in operating rooms to induce unconsciousness. It is generally given through an IV needle in the hand.” AP July 1.

    Or this:

Brian Oxman, Jackson family spokesman and attorney, reacted to the tragic news of Michael Jackson’s death on CNN. He said he was “stunned” and that he cried with the family. He also said that the people surrounding Michael were “enabling him” and that he “warned” the family that Michael may have been abusing prescription drugs.

  4. Are your examples not hearsay rather than circumstantial evidence?

Did they find the drugs next to Jackson’s lifeless body as they did with Ledger?

  5. In Jackson’s case, his “doctor” performed CPR himself and delayed calling 911 for some time after Jackson OD’d. Then the doctor fled on foot, and was immediately sought by the police, who found his car on the property but couldn’t find him.

Those at the house told police that Jackson was given a large injection of drugs shortly before his cardiac arrest.

I’d say that’s as much circumstantial evidence as pills lying near the body.

I think the difference is not the evidence, its the person involved. Everyone has decided to ignore the last 25 years and act as if a healthy, Thriller-era Michael Jackson has unexpectedly died. It’s befuddling to me.

  6. I think Jill’s last paragraph in the comment before this, is what I was really trying to say.

Or, put another way, Michael Jackson was seriously fucked-up. Why isn’t the news media dealing with that in relation to his death?

Regarding hearsay. I do not believe the examples are hearsay. Lee said Michael badgered her. Brian Oxman said he warned the family. Hearsay would be if a third party said that Lee said or Brian said.

  7. I hate to say it people, but get a life. Arn’t there a whole lot more importent issues in the news than m.j and ledger

  8. Barry, would you like me to post my home phone number? Then you could call me directly and tell me what I should be thinking and doing. What a relief this will be! Thank you so much.

(I’ll make sure to get a separate grammar and spelling coach.)

  9. Barry, Please note the heading of this thread, ‘Idle thought’. Not ‘Profound thought’, or ‘Important thought’, just Idle, nothing more. Nine posts over a 10+ hour period hardly makes it obsessive!
