“California, it has long been claimed, is where the future happens first. But is that still true? If it is, God help America.”
Paul Krugman is worth the time today of those who don’t usually read Krugman.
C’mon, go read it.

As a resident, I’d love to defend the state, but cannot.
Any place where to spend money takes a simple majority but to raise money (ie taxes) takes a 2/3 majority…well, that’s a recipe for disaster.
I was hostile at the November election when the voters agreed to spending $9 billion (capital B!) in debt for a high speed rail…while the state teeters on the edge of bankruptcy. Sure, a high speed rail would be nice…but it’s a NICE to have!
Our current governor, who everyone was so enamored of because he produced a bunch of popular movies, is driving this state into the ground.
Sadly, the upcoming candidates for governor, Meg Whitman of Ebay and Gavin Newsom, currently running the city of San Francisco into the ground, are no better.
Thanks for the post!
