I usually start out Sunday morning with a little classical music — this morning some Bach organ pieces.
But after the first cup of coffee, it’s time to rev it up. And who better than Rodrigo y Gabriela?

As a guitar aficionado who has been obsessed with the instrument for 35 years I can’t tell you how much I love those guys. It is energizing. I love it when they come up on my iPod while I’m driving to and from work.
They’re sophisticated, modern and dynamic. And I really love that they are from Mexico and not Spain or Brazil, as are the vast majority of well-known Latin guitarists. But that isn’t to say I don’t absolutely adore a great many Spanish and Brazilian guitar players. I certainly do.
Alas I missed them when they last came to Portland but I won’t the next time!
BTW, for those who like Rodrigo y Gabriela listen to Strunz and Farrah
I love that R&G started off in metal and came to popularity in Ireland, of all places.
And yes, ¡Viva Mexico! Maybe someday we’ll treat them like neighbors, hopefully in a better fashion than we have with Haiti.
Ditto on Strunz and Farah (Costa Rica and Iran, respectively).
