During my recent visit to Virginia I suggested that Mack (8) and Aidan (5) would really enjoy the greatest movie ever made if I could find it on cable or the internets. I was, of course, referring to Tremors, the Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward classic.
Mack and Aidan’s parents were adamant that the boys could not watch the film. Too scary. I suggested it wasn’t any scarier than Transformers and Space Rangers, but I was told the boys knew Transformers and Space Rangers weren’t real, but might not be so sure about huge underground flesh-eating worms.
I wouldn’t go against the parents, but I wondered if anyone else has a take on this.

Merri and I agree that Tremors is one of the best movies of all-time. I can imagine it might be scary to little kids, who might also not appreciate its excellent take on the genre. (We watched The Sure Thing again, for Valentine’s Day. It’s in our top 10, too.)
Best line in the best movie? My pick is, “Ole Walter is slick as snot, and I ain’t lying.” Or perhaps, “Fuuuuk you!”
I agree a bit too scary for little kids, and it is very funny.
I can easily imagine Tremors causing nightmares in impressionable young brains, even though it is a great movie.
Depending in the kid it may not a good one to watch alone but with an adult that is more concerned about the kids than the movie I can’t see how it could be a problem. There are pause and stop buttons and presumably if one kid wants to continue watching you take the other one out of the room and read or play with him.
I let our “special” 8 year old watch the trailer and he kept saying, “Do it again, Mommy!” over and over again.
The movie? Not so much.
Too scary.
But we did get a good laugh out of it!
