AP Style dictates that years are never written out, not even at the beginning of a sentence. But if I were gonna break the rule, I’d go with two thousand nine.
Either oh-nine or ought-nine. Then again, I have also been known to pronounce the start of everything this decade as “two-kay” thanks to the media blitz about The Bug 9 years ago.
