Subaru and Dodge Ram Hemi may be truer to form in New Mexico than say Arlington, Virginia, but the characterizations apply everwhere. Kahunaburger tells us to Beware of the Santa Fe Snow Drivers — “First, let’s meet Carla Cautious. She drives an old Subaru. Green. … Second, there’s Rick Rambo. He drives one of those 7.1L Hemi Dodge Ram Heavy Duty trucks.”
Go read and enjoy.
Light snow this morning at Casa NewMexiKen, no accumulation yet.
Is it really 10 below in Denver?
Ken,
Nope, it’s all the way up to 0F right now. We’re sunning by the pool.
Coyote Gulch
I am a lot closer to Carla than Rick, including the green Subaru. (No bumper stickers, though, and my tires are all inflated.) However, in defense of Subaru drivers everywhere, I have to point out that you rarely see one in a ditch, unlike full-sized pickups and the big SUVs.
Dad in Denver said that temp was up from an overnight low of -14
And generally speaking, snow time is a great time to find out who actually knows the limitations of the car they drive.
There is something to the thought that ~many~ pickup and SUV drivers think they stick to the ground better, a mistake usually disabused after the first season.
My ideal is drive your truck or SUV like it is a Subaru (a very nimble and frequently under-rated snow car btb).
But if I’m going into the ditch, I’d rather be in the truck.
And where did Volvo get such a great rep for snow handling? I’ve had three and they were all pigs on ice.
It has been several degrees colder at DIA, where they are doing the official measurement, than in the city, although it was five below at my house this morning.
According to Weather Bug, the weather station at Coors Field in downtown Denver had a high temp today of 2º and a low of -9º. It says it’s -2º there at the moment (9:18PM).
30º/26º near me in Albuquerque today.
