No where in the collection of holiday songs is the singer lamenting for Christmas of their youth were it was 65 and sunny.
Or having tamales to eat on Christmas Eve.
Or plucking a piñon tannenbaum out of the pile for 15 bucks a piece at the flea market.
Or filling paper bags with sand.
No, the “east coast bias” that applies to sports seems to infiltrate the holiday as well.

It’d be interesting to hear some Australian Christmas carols. Lots of folks Down Under head for the beach on Christmas.
As a recent East Coast transplant, I will happily side with Karen. No Macy’s windows means no tramping through filthy, slushy snow to look at them with a million other gawkers. Snow is beautiful for about 10 minutes after it falls, after that, it’s just cold and dirty and a pain. I’d far rather be doing what I’m planning to do tomorrow – heading to the free sand I heard about, filling my luminarias. I had a great time eating posole today at work and green chile stew yesterday (everyone is cooking too much and bringing it in!). I wish more of my friends and family were about, but I’ll keep sending pictures of the mountains and expect eventually they will succumb. How could they not?
Hey Lucky, you are, truly, lucky.
Enjoy Christmas in New Mexico. It’s my favorite time of year there.
What I wouldn’t give to have posole at work…..or the ladies who bring in homemade tamales!
