On a similar track, I’ve always wondered why Palin having to “bone up” to meet with world leaders is seen as either good enough for, or the equivalent of, years of actual on the ground experience meeting with world leaders.
“Mr. NewMexiKen, Even though Dr. Bumpkin has several years of experience as a country GP, he has spent the last couple of days boning up on brain surgery, and will be fine to operate on you.”
There is, I believe, the mistaken understanding in this country that the phrase “anyone can grow up to be president” means that anyone is capable of being president. That of course is never what was meant.
