  1. Watching golf without Woods the rest of 2008 will be like going to the Last Supper without the guest of honor.

Here’s more from that John Feinstein column:

Mickelson is a Hall of Fame player, but when it really matters — as in a major, not some trumped up ‘playoff’ event in Boston — he’s the groundhog on February 2nd: as soon as he sees Tiger’s shadow, he’s gone for the next six weeks.

At least Mickelson has won three majors. Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia are millionaires with groupies worldwide, but when is one of them going to contend in a major? It’s not like they’re kids. Both are closing in on 30. And it isn’t as if Woods has snatched titles away from either one of them. You have to contend to have that happen.

  2. From the ESPN bottom-line scroller:

Woods’ performance in majors since tearing ACL in July 2007:
Won 2007 PGA Championship. Finished 2nd at 2008 Master. Won 2008 U.S. Open
