Amelia Earhart took off from Newfoundland for Ireland on May 20th in 1932, the first woman to solo the Atlantic.
Earhart was the first woman, yes, but she was also just the second person, male or female, to fly solo across the Atlantic.
That’s always been noteworthy to me. Earhart was really an aviation pioneer, not just a female aviation pioneer.
