I’ve talked to a number of people now about the Best Picture Oscar-winner No Country for Old Men and pretty much without exception women dislike it and men like it. And the ending seems to particularly fall into this polarity.
Is my sample just too small?
I liked the movie a lot; I got really “into it” in the theater. I also considered it a well-deserved best picture winner.
And I liked the ending. Without saying too much specifically…I felt that the major plot lines were all wrapped up, and the feeling of the ending fit the feeling of the film, and was an unexpected but appropriate way to go out.
But I live with four males, so maybe I am now starting to think like them.
I agree with Jill. I read the book and have watched the movie. I can think of no other way that the story could of ended. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit.
At the theater after the movie ended a man stood up and said, “Is there a part two?”. Guess that is the feeling of most who have seen the movie or read the book.
Why does everyone always want everything tied up in one neat little bow? Life is not ever going to be all peaches and cream.
I can’t say if I liked it or not since I didn’t see it, duh, but I have no earthly desire to watch a psychopath on a killing rampage. My life is stressful enough as it is (except for the fact that in the last two days, we welcomed three new lambs into our world). I don’t want to see overly violent or disturbing films. I guess ignorance is bliss for me.
But I loved “Knocked Up’ which you mentioned today and “Superbad.” Make me laugh; I don’t do it enough.
The lamb photos are pretty cute!
What Lauren said!
As far as I’m concerned, this is a movie that did not need to be made.
However, I did think the ending was good.
I would rather watch Ratatouille.
I enjoyed it. I didn’t love the ending, but it didn’t particularly bother me either. I usually shy away from exceptionally violent movies, which is why I told someone the other day that I don’t think it’s a movie I’d ever watch again. While I liked it in the theater the first time, I can’t see myself being able to watch it a second time simply because I’d be able to anticipate all of the violence and that would mean I’d have my eyes closed for 3/4 of the movie.
Not sure if my sample is any better, but all the women in my life (sister, sister’s partner, sister’s partner’s mother, my mother and my girlfriend) all loved it. They vary in age from 30 to 70.
interesting question…
Loved it- thought it deserving of Best Picture. I have recommended it to all my family and friends. Probably 85% of the women I know have liked it.
It is a good question.
I still think Tom Wilkinson was robbed of the Oscar for Best Supporting Male Actor, though.
I watched it with two women friends (former co-workers) and we all walked away thinking it was a great flick. Otherwise, the women in my life (sister, girlfriend) haven’t watched it yet!
