Edith Wheeler

… was born in New York City on this date in 1900. On her father’s side Edith was descended from John Wheeler and Agnes Yeoman who emigrated from England in 1634 on the ship Mary & John and settled in Massachusetts. Edith’s mother’s father, Andrew Jackson Hutchinson, served with the Union Army during the War of the Rebellion.

Edith Wheeler had four children and sixteen grandchildren of whom NewMexiKen is the oldest.

  1. As a descendant of Edith Wheeler and her husband who’s family arrived 76 years later, I have some feelings about immigration.

    Too bad we let all those damn immigrants come in here after 1795. Millions of undocumented aliens, who just showed up at the “border” and were allowed to become Americans. No lawyers, fees, fingerprinting, background checking. These “legal immigrants” had it easy. Oh, except for the terrible living conditions many left in the old country and then found here, as well as the horrific travel.
