As a two-time resident of California (two years in the Bay Area, 10 years in Orange County), NewMexiKen is familiar with its cycles of rain, mudslides, brush growth, fire, erosion. The worst of these is always fire. I’m certain whatever news source you follow will provide you with a surfeit of video and pointless interviews. I just thought this photo taken in Irvine in Orange County was striking. Click for larger version.
The photo is from the Los Angeles Times, which has many.
Update: I thought this announcement from the San Diego Wild Animal Park was interesting.
That is a stunning photo. Those fires are really high and hot. My best friend from high school (from here in ABQ) lives in San Diego and is a firefighter. I texted her last night to make sure she’s okay. She was on duty but not yet sure if they’d be going out. She became a firefighter at the age of 40!! She’s quite the trooper but those fires are really big from the Santa Ana winds. I grew up in Napa (until I was 13) and lived in San Luis Obispo for ten years. I know those types of fires well. Yikes!
Glad to see the wildlife park is on the ball. I couldn’t imagne…
Thanks for a great photo/link post.
