Longer-term readers of this site will, of course, recognize Dad, official dad of NewMexiKen, who often commented here from his home in Tucson. Dad and I took two lengthy road trips in recent years, also memorialized on these pages.
Dad has died of a heart attack. He was 83 and had serious heart problems since his 50s, but it’s still a shock. Blogging is what I do much of the time — and Dad was my most loyal reader — so it seems natural enough for me to share the news with you here.
My condolences on you and your family’s loss.
Words can’t suffice, but I am sorry for your loss.
I have read and enjoyed your trips that you took with your dad and his comments on your blogging.
You were so very lucky to be able to enjoy him for so many years.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad.
Warm thoughts for you and your family…
I’m new to reading your blog and didn’t have the pleasure of your dad’s contributions. He must have been a proud contributor. My condolences to you and your family.
You are in our thoughts. Pat and Jerry
Both the Wife and I send our thoughts and prayers to you.
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad last year to a heart attack , he was 69.
May you find much comfort thinking of the times you spent together.
peace.
My condolences to you and your family.
I am tremendously sorry for your loss but am glad to know that Grandpa was able to enjoy one more holiday season. He sent Cat the sweetest postcard as part of her project. While it is probably small consolation, I am sure you will see his many fine qualities when you look at your sweeties and when you look in the mirror. His zest for life will live in.
Our thoughts are with you.
Thinking of you and yours, Ken.
Ken:
My deepest sympathies. Please take consolation in the fact that your dad lived a long and full life, that he still lives in the hearts of every one he touched, and that your blog allowed him to be known to countless people who never came into direct contact with him.
I lost my own father two years ago — on Jan. 2, 2005, to be exact — to the slow ravages of stomach cancer, and I know the sudden sense of emptiness that you are now feeling. As you and others look back to celebrate his life you will find the strength to get up once again and carry on with life just like he did.
Please take care of yourself and those you care for.

Kahlil Gibran once asked, “For what is it to die, but to stand in the sun and melt into the wind?” With memories, immortality. It sounds like there was breadth and depth here. I’m so very sorry for your loss.
