Definition of Little Girl Has Changed

Kiley's Letter to Santa

Little girls still ask for a Barbie at Christmas, but girls now ask for Barbie at age four (like Kiley in the letter to Santa seen here) or even younger. “Barbie was originally intended for nine- to twelve-year-olds; today, girls widely perceive it as a toy for three- to six-year-olds. The association of Barbie with preschool girls sometimes leads slightly older girls to repudiate the doll with sadistic élan.”

  1. Just so you know, my sweet little girl only wants the Barbie car and house so she can use them for her princess dolls. It’s really princesses that she is obsessed with, not Barbie. Plus, NewMexiKen left off the other half of this letter to Santa where she asked for a Woody doll, boy dolls, paint, and construction paper. The only present she has said she just HAS to have is the Woody doll.

  2. Page two, Kiley's letter to Santa

Page two, just as Emily says. The original of this important document was deposited with Santa today. He seemed favorably impressed and, so far as I could tell, pre-disposed to being especially responsive.

  3. You’ll be happy to hear that Santa came through with the Woody doll, boy dolls, construction paper, paints, Lady and the Tramp, and a small Barbie house, among other gifts. Kiley was an extremely happy little girl on Christmas morning.

I am horrified to report, though, that the Barbie house comes with sound effects . . . including a flushing toilet. So, now, all we hear all day is the little toilet flushing, courtesy of our 19-month old. Oh joy . . .
