Troops respond to Kerry’s attempt to be amusing

What Kerry said: “You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

What Kerry intended to say (his prepared remarks): “Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.”

What Kerry should have said:

Kerry’s formal apology. Well done. More class over one misstatement than the White House has shown over 2,800 American combat deaths.

  2. Today I just heard the full context of what he said, and he was right, he was speaking about Bush, having recently visited Texas. There’s a Keith Olbermann video out there that has the whole thing, and while I’m no Kerry apologist, he really was taken out of context.

  3. He botched his own joke more than being taken out of context. The point is don’t joke about a war in which US soldiers will likely die and be injured the day you make the joke in a large political gathering. And if you do, get it right.

  4. Eh, I’m not with you on the apology. It sounds a bit grudging to me.

“I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted…”

‘Round here we call that a “Byron Apology.” My husband rarely admits he was wrong, but will say he’s so sorry YOU overreacted/ misinterpreted/ were too sensitive/ didn’t get the joke/ etc.

  5. Kerry is an absolute moron. Of course he intended to put down soldiers. He hates them because he is a traitor to his own comrades-in-arms. And he’s so stupid that he thought the students at that U. had his same twisted way of thinking. What a disgusting individual.
