Took about 20 minutes including the commute to and from the nearby school. This morning it was all backed up, so I’m glad I waited as there was no line at all.
We voted with paper this year — too much like taking the SAT if you ask me. Fill in the ovals. Once done, the ballot is scanned into a shredder vote counting machine while we watch.
I was asked to show ID and when I balked (because my preferred M.O. is ass), I was only asked to provide the last four digits of my SSN. (I did show my ID, I simply questioned why.) Anyone know what the law requires in New Mexico?
It took us three hours and three vote centers to vote (in Denver). The first vote center said it would be an hour and a half and directed us to another center about 15 mintues away. The computers (for signing in) broke at the second center, so after 40 minutes of no one moving the officials directed us to yet a third center. The third center was woefully understaffed, but fortunately had functional computers and we were finally able to vote.
I miss the designated voting location of Virginia. At least then we didn’t rely on computers — we just walked in and had our names crossed off a paper list. I guess the positive in this situation is that the actual voting machines worked just fine (though it was sad to see 20 empty voting machines when there was a 2 hour wait to sign in).
If there were so many problems involved with signing in, I can only imagine how accurate the actual voting process is. I prefer not to think about that too much.
It only took me about 20 minutes, too. No line, no ID required. They asked to see my voter registration card and had me sign a list. It was 4:30 in the afternoon, and I was only #168 at that voting location.
I didn’t get a sticker, though — did you?
No sticker.
Not only did I get a sticker, but so did my three small-fry voting assistants.
That was impressive, considering how high turnout was here in The Old Dominion, aka GLORIOUS RESTORERS OF THE SENATE MAJORITY. (Y’all might have helped in your own states, but we all know that us Virginians did the heavy lifting.)
