Back Off!

NewMexiKen, alas, has a couple of herniated discs which can, and sometimes do, cause a lot pain.

This is one of those times; after a few weeks of bad it went to worse over night.

Sitting at the computer (long enough to blog) doesn’t help. So I won’t.

However, I’m told I’m even grouchier than usual, so if you’d like your head bit off for any reason — personal sense of worthlessness, general feelings of inadequacy, guilt, whatever — I’m definitely your man. Drop me a line.

  1. My ex had a herniated disc, and I know what kind of pain that can involve. He was not the kind of guy who would admit to being sick or in pain, but when his back would go out, it would (literally) bring him (literally) to his knees. Sometimes, all it took was a sneeze.

    Hope you’re better soon.

  2. I’m 57, have had bad discs since 1973. I chickened out on surgery then, and have lived with them since.
It’s important to be symmetrecal (sp?) at all times, even when feeling good. Twisting and torso turning is for purposeful exercise only. Stomache tightening – when you feel good! – is an important preventative – even a “cure.” It os all about the stomache/torso muscles. Looking good has paybacks.
Also, laying on your back and gently pulling both legs up until your bent legs can fold onto your chest is a great exercise. Sometimes when very sore and bent up ( I can look down and see my belly hair line make an ‘s’ turn down my torso), I have to pull my legs up by grabbing my pants. Even when hurtin’ and weak, this helps recovery and relief.
    Hope you get better,
    Richard
