NewMexiKen is thinking it’s time once again to change how these pages look.
You know how it is when you want to redecorate, right? You ask everyone’s opinion. Truth told, you don’t really want their opinion, what you really want is validation for your own opinion.
That may or not be true of me here (probably is true) but at least I’m going to let you have a say up front BEFORE I make the changes.
Below is a list of “themes.” Except for “NewMexiKen,” which is the name of the theme I’ve been using, the themes in the list are generic. That means that some of them won’t even have the title NewMexiKen show up on the pages. Many will use their own art. None has The Sweeties!
Some will look fine, others confused. Still, they give you some idea of possibilities. And the posts you see will be NewMexiKen’s own.
Once you chose a theme, it will stay with you each visit via a cookie until you chose another theme (or I delete your choice as part of this process).
Remember its just a test, so don’t worry about the messy or missing stuff.
Let me know what I should think. Have fun.
[Update: Theme Switcher removed.]
Update September 18: The Sweeties will be part of NewMexiKen in any redesign. They just aren’t part of the generic sampler.
painted desert looks ok to me… but i like the status quo just fine.
I tried several out of curiosity. The Painted Desert was indeed attractive, and I especially liked the MistyLook. But I’ll stick with NewMexiKen just to get the Sweeties, thank you. They brighten my days.
Aesthetically, I like “I Feel Dirty,” but I don’t think it’s in tune with the NMK brand. A little too edgy.
Cutline is nice, but you’d have to do something with the NMK banner so the font doesn’t look generic. C’mon, Ken: Take a stand. The design is clean so let the header font go a little nutty. In fact, if you get inventive enough with the logotype you could make it look just like my blog, which is the standard I think all blogs should try to meet.
WuCoco is nice, but it needs new art. Foreboding isn’t your subtext. But the layout is good. I like the links across the top/left.
If you do Fresh, I’ll never visit again.
I think maybe I’d stick with NMK as is, and put my design energy into changing the banner regularly, a la Google. But if i had to pick, I think I’d go with Cutline.
Also, instead of the sweeties, how about feature caricatures of Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney in distress positions. Or John Woo being waterboarded. That’s something that’ll bring in the traffic.
Harumph. Several people at this address will find NewMexiKen significantly less appealing without the Sweeties.
I like I Feel Dirty. The sidebar with the effect that looks like paper is cool.
There are a bunch that I do not like at all. They’re way too boring or just like everyone else’s blogs.
I like the idea of changing the NMK banner to include your own images. You can alter it based on the time of year.
