An encyclopedia of book and publshing statistics compiled by Para Publishing.
I found this fascinating:
81% of the population feels they have a book inside them.
BUT
58% of the US adult population never reads another book after high school.
42% of college graduates never read another book.
80% of US families did not buy or read a book last year.
70% of US adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years. (Or this one: Only 32% of the U.S. population has ever been in a bookstore.)
Fascinating? I find it sickening.
There is no logical way that most of these statistics can be true.
“80% of US families did not buy or read a book last year.” That can’t possibly be true, if you estimate that at least one-third to one-half of families have a child in school.
