NewmexiKen, I guess I’ll need to step up my comment leaving to create a more equal exchange of ideas. I liked your reference to Twain, whiskey, and the politics of water in the American west. A great read about the west’s most important resource is Cadillac Desert. The division of water from the Colorado River basin was apparently settled at Bishops Lodge north of Santa Fe which I always thought was fascintating. Another interesting fact from the book: The politicians and power brokers created the apportionment with an overzealous idea of how much annual water they would have, laying the foundation for years of litigation between the parties involved (NM,CO,AZ,NV,and though not a bordering state – CA).
