What’s missing from this language?

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

That’s the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, formally adopted on this date in 1870.

What’s missing is on account of “sex.” That came about in the 19th Amendment, 50 years later.
