Mack had the best present ever this year when the one and only NewMexiKen showed up at his front door, completely by surprise. Mack didn’t know how to react. He looked at his grandpa and said, “Hmm. Grandpa. . . . Thanks for the gift.” (Mack had just opened Grandpa’s gift downstairs, so maybe he thought the two were related.) He hugged Grandpa awkwardly.
Then, he kind of got the fact that it was a big deal and a good surprise. So, he ran down the stairs yelling to his mom and brother that Grandpa/Poppa was here. His mom said, “No, he’s not.” Mack claimed that indeed his grandpa was here. Jill again said, “No, he’s not.” Then, she realized that of course Mack knew who his grandpa was, so she stood up and came around the corner to see her dad standing there. She dropped the present she was wrapping and started crying as she hurried over to kiss him. The boys, in the meantime acted like Grandpa had been there just the day before. They immediately started trying to get him to play light saber fights with them. Just like old times!
What a very special surprise for a little boy and mommy on the boy’s fifth birthday. I’m excited that as the auntie and cohort for Grandpa, I was a part of the surprise.
Happy Birthday, Mack!
Every kid pic posted on a blog is of a super cute kid. Yours is no exception! Do you suppose the folks with the less-than-cute kids just don’t post their pictures?
Roxanne, I think most kids are cute. It’s a technique to help secure the survival of the species.
I know!
Happy Birthday Mack!
Mack’s birthday it is! May the Force be with You!
