Gee, only 22 posts today. Seriously, that must be close to a record for NewMexiKen.
Dear NewMexiKen,
Now that the race is over, it is clear that the better man won.
This nation (better than half of us) has decisively determined that liberal pretentiousness will not rule the land.
The very next concept to be eliminated will be sacred Political Correctness. Once again we will be able to call a duck…a duck as it waddles and quacks.
We won’t gloat in victory to avoid bruising you further, but we will savor feeling your pain.
Have a great day, or start mixing the Koolade.
Jim
A fellow New Mexican
Dear Jim,
What is clear is the better man did not win. Indeed, the more corrupt and better funded by corporations and presented by narrow-minded right-wing agenda motivated media conglomerates man won.
Why do Republicans hate what they do not understand? Why does the Right prefer to be ruled rather than governed? Why do the Republicans want more government in our homes and bedrooms? Why do Republicans want dreadful public schools? Why does the Right want to eliminate civil liberties? Why does the right-wing do everything they can to keep Democracy from happening by the disenfranchisement of voters and the suppression of the press? Why does the Right want tyranny?
Furthermore, I hope you do not have any children or grandchildren, because due to lack of common sense from voters such as yourself, there will not be any clean air or water for them regardless of their social status.
Remember, God is not a Christian, neither was Christ.
Hooray for the closed minded and ignorant!
Beautiful, John.
Here I go again: I am sure I will get blasted for this, go ahead. Just trying to do the right thing.
So to start off, I voted for Bush. I am probably the only member of Ken’s family (extended or otherwise that did). I could list a ton of reasons why I voted for him (and a ton why I shouldn’t have). But, I can’t think of one reason why I should have voted for Kerry. He never gave me any and neither did any of you. I am not alone.
I understand that I am an outsider and a guest to this forum. But,as I read this website, I am shocked by some of the comments and quite frankly the content that drives them.(Sorry,Ken)
John asked: “Why do Republicans hate what they do not understand?” I think the same thing could be asked of everyone who has posted here for the last few days. Apparently, according to this site, if you voted for Bush you are:
a moron (thanks, Debby and Ken)
a tyrant (thanks, John)
a homophobe, a thief, against the environment, etc
I am consistently offended by much of the language here. I usually keep my mouth shut. I point it out, today, because I think it mirrors THE problem in our country. We are the only ones who can fix it, right nearlynormalnorman?
I come here, and other places, to see and hear the other side. Try to understand your positions and what I am missing. I haven’t seen enough to know why you support your positions. Typically it’s a post about some conservative thing and then a comment about how all Republicans eat babies or something like that. None of you are trying to change my mind. All you are doing is putting me in a defensive posture with no alternative other than to support my position.
Where was the discussion about Kerry’s Health Plan, Social Security, Education, etc? Where was the discussion about anything of substance? Nowhere, it was nothing but mudslinging. And then to turn around and suggest that the only people guilty are the Republicans? All of you who contributed to that should be ashamed. After all, you voted for Kerry, you’re smarter than that.
Go out and read stuff from people that you disagree with. I come here every day. I read Anna Quindlen’s column in Newsweek every other week. Every time I want to write her and tell her how wrong she is. Funny thing, though, this week she seemed to be close to the mark. Maybe my letters are working 🙂
The Democrats lost because they had the wrong candidate. Therefore, aren’t the Democrats “morons” for picking a liberal Senator from the Northeast? Who was the last Senator to win the Presidency? Wasn’t that 44 yeats ago? Apparently, that curse is bigger than the Redskin one. Kerry turned out to be unelectable. How else could he have lost this election? Either side picks a moderate and they win 60% of the popular vote.
But, I will not name call here (just using your words, sorry). If you know someone who voted for Bush, find out why and stop calling him names. Maybe it makes you feel better to think that you are superior to the rest of the country, but it doesn’t make your vote count twice. At the very least, take the time to confirm your superiority.
It seems to me, that all we learned in the election is that when faced with two extreme candidates, right now the country leans to the right.
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. I wouldn’t come here to try and learn if I didn’t respect the people that I know contribute to the site. I know that I’m preaching a little, up on the soapbox. How can we expect more from our parties when we don’t lead by example?
Resume the battle of words if you want. Blast me back in a post, that’s fine. You may feel better about yourself, or your position, but it won’t have changed a thing other than make me and fifty-nine million other people dig in a little more.

In closing, I apoligize to my wife. First of all, she has to live with me. Second, she tried to explain my political beliefs in a previous post. She failed. I am a libertarian with strong fiscal conservative beliefs. There are a lot of us in the Republican party. They used to call us Rockefeller Republicans. Now, I guess were a bunch of bigoted, uninformed Nazis.
P.S. This goes both ways, Jim.
Byron –
That was heartfelt and thoughtful and impressive, given the fact that you are legally required to socialize with NewMexiKen.
I feel a little like I’m intruding on a private, after-dinner conversation, but I’ve done that before and usually come out of it with at least a dessert to show for my rudeness, so why not do it one more time?
I voted for Kerry, and I want to take the opportunity, with lowered voice and calm tone, to address a couple of issues.
First of all, you saPOSTID:
“Therefore, aren’t the Democrats “morons” for picking a liberal Senator from the Northeast?”
To which I answer: Of course we are. We knew it when we were doing it. We couldn’t help ourselves. We did it because we were innoculating ourselves from the argument that we wouldn’t defend the country. We nominated a war hero, for goodness sake, never imagining that patriotic Republicans would slander and libel his military service. Can you imagine what would have happened if the Democrats had similarly disrespected a Republican combat veteran?
So that was a distraction. Kerry, who took a lot of grief from the smug media about having a policy for every problem — a terrible thing, I guess — wasn’t able to talk about his policies because the liberal media were having so much fun repeating libels and slanders about the candidate they were supposedly shilling for. There wasn’t time for issues.
Which brings me to my second point:
It’s not the Rockefeller Republicans that are bigoted or uninformed. I’m a small-government liberal, like you a fiscally conservative libertarian. President Bush is converting the Republican Party into the exact opposite of that, a party that is both spendthrift and intrusive.
The Democratic Party has its sub-species of ’60s leftovers: Those who haven’t quite given up on Marx and think the world would be a better place if we could just try harder to get along with people like Saddam. But the Republican is not pure, either, and is dominated at this moment by people who would legislate religion, roll-back freedom of speech, give the Executive Branch the power to arrest people without legal recourse, close once-open government, and force a long brutalized minority (homosexuals) back into the country’s dimly lit corners.
From the point of view of either a Rockefeller Republican or a small-government liberal two things are clear: In the Democratic party, the forces of the ridiculous are waning. In the Republican party, they’re ascendent.
That’s why I voted for Kerry, and why you should have, too.
Thanks for the dessert.
Tom,
Well said. You can sit down at my table anytime.
The Republican Party is far from pure and far from what I want it to be. I want the tone of the discussion to go down so that both sides can begin to move back towards the center.
Yes, well, you just invite me to your table because you’ve never seen me eat.
Must add that eating at Byron’s is a special treat for many reasons including that Byron is a terrific and innovative cook.
Is anyone else hungry?
