Mary, never a lamb

Jill, official oldest daughter of NewMexiKen, attended high school with Mary Cheney, though Jill played softball and Mary played field hockey. Mary once had a dispute in chemistry class with an obnoxious substitute teacher who had made some disparaging comments about females. He finally told Mary that the reason she was so mouthy must be that she did not have a strong father figure at home. Mary, unknown to him, was the daughter of the then Secretary of Defense. She strode out of class and within about five minutes the principal returned to escort the substitute from the classroom.

Even then the Cheneys knew how to quiet their critics, though in chemistry class at least, Mary seemed willing to stand up for her values.

[Actually NewMexiKen believes Ms. Cheney is standing up for what’s important to her. Her father is important to her. And that’s all right with me.]

  1. That’s a great story, really gets across the family loyalty theme.

However, it’s not all right with me that Mary puts her loyalty to her dad above her loyalty to her people. Maybe I’m just pissed because although my dad is also a Republican bigot, no one has offered me 100 grand a year to be a lesbian in public…but the reality is, she wants to get paid to preach things that hurt us to our people, but puts her family of origin ahead of ‘family’.

It was sellout stuff until last week, at which point it became an outrage. Excuuuse me, you have doen nothing in your adult life but get paid to be a lesbian and you let your parents (and their overseers) make a political firestorm out of the other guy saying…you’re a lesbian? Grow up, dammit. Either you’re a permanent child and subservient to your parents’ values, or you’re a paid outreach worker to queers. Pick one.

  2. According to Jon Stewart on tonight’s “The Daily Show” Mary Cheney is the only lesbian in America with parents.
