I don’t get it

NewMexiKen understands why some people, especially Republicans, don’t care for John Kerry. I think they’re wrong, but I understand.

What I don’t understand is how any American could vote to give George Bush four more years to put American soldiers in harm’s way. Bush and his national security people lied about why we needed to go to war. They have incompetently managed the war. And now they are lying about their incompetence.

To me, this alone, rises above all other interests and issues. You simply cannot reward this behavior and say you support the troops.

  1. Then there are issues of health care, labor laws, the environment, education, advancing American technology….Bush fails miserably in all these areas.

  2. But in a two-party system, what other choice do die-hard, life-long Republicans have? If the situation were reversed, would we all be out there voting for the Republican so that he could be in office. I know I wouldn’t. I don’t know what I’d do, but I wouldn’t knowingly vote to put someone in the White House who went against every single thing I believed in. Abstaining is certainly a choice, but then aren’t you in a way helping the opposition?

Don’t get me wrong. I can’t imagine choosing in good conscience to vote for Mr. Bush. However, I can certainly see where many Republicans in this nation are being put in a tough spot this election. Wouldn’t it be great if this horrible election helped spur a larger third party movement over the next four years? When you only have two choices, you options are too limited. It doesn’t feel like as much of a democracy when you look at the ballot and have no real choice.

  3. Americans need to drop the team sport gibberish that abounds in politics. This is the future of our nation.

To me there is a real choice. If one cares about clean air and water for today’s children and future generations as well, then how could there be any doubt.

Emily is correct in her hope for future alternatives. I do think however, it is time to drop the ?Third Party? epithet. These groups are not “Third Parties,” they are simply alternatives to the duopoly that exists.

The winner take all system needs to go! It is time for proportional representation and Instant Runoff Voting.
