From Morning Briefing in the Los Angeles Times
KFWB’s Bret Lewis, on the supposed doom and gloom faced by Andre Agassi after losing his first-round French Open match to Jerome Haehnel, ranked 271st in the world:
“His trainer says, ‘We’re in uncharted waters right now. We need to find a reason to wake up tomorrow.’
“Let’s see. Andre is 34. A multimillionaire and an international superstar. With a famous wife and a happy family. Gosh, I hope somehow he can find the will to go on.”
Bret Lewis stated that he did not understand why a man would forget his wife’s birthday for watching a soccer game; he said he could see it if it had been basketball. Bret
doesn’t know, or doesn’t want to acknowledge that Soccer has a vast following all over the world; whereas Basketball may be played here in the states, and in other countries, Basketball doesn’t have the same impact on people as Soccer does.
I’d equate it to somebody saying that a Ford is better than a BMW. Somebody thinking this would plainly show he had not driven a BMW before.
It is not wise for someone who doesn’t know about a subject to opine about it blindly. Bret’s credibility goes way down when he makes such statements. People on radio may say whatever they want but that’s not to say that what they’re saying is reality. It would be good for Bret to at least try to get some information about a subject before he starts talking about it.
